THE PROBLEM WITH PUPPY MILLS

Many people go to puppy mills and backyard breeders to find their animals, but they are often treated inhumanly. Buying from these organizations supports the further inhumane treatment of animals, and creates profit for those who are running the businesses. Here are some of the many practices that go on in puppy mills:

  • Puppy mills often value profit over the quality of life of their animals

  • Puppy mills do not treat their female breeding dogs very well. They are often forced to breed one litter directly after the next, without much recovery time between. This can put a strain on the dogs health.

  • Dogs in puppy mills spend much of their life inside cages, without room to run, play, and lead a normal life.

  • Annually, about 2 million puppies are bought from puppy mills, and about 3 million dogs are euthanized. If those who went to puppy mills had decided to adopt, millions of dog's lives could have been saved.
